Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/matt-gaetz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Matt Gaetz</a> (R-FL) resigned from U.S. Congress effectively immediately after President-elect Donald Trump announced that he was being nominated to serve as U.S. Attorney General.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced at a press conference that Gaetz &#8220;issued his resignation letter effective immediately.&#8221;
He said that Gaetz&#8217;s resignation caught House Republican leadership by surprise.
&#8220;I asked him what the reasoning was, and he said, &#8216;Well, you can&#8217;t have too many absences,'&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;So under Florida State law, there&#8217;s about an eight week period to select and fill in a vacant seat.&#8221;
Johnson said that he has already placed a call to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to start the clock on filling Gaetz&#8217;s seat.
&#8220;If we start the clock now, if you do the math, we may be able to fill that seat as early as January 3, when we take the new oath of office for the new Congress,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;So Matt would have done us a great service by making that decision as he did on the fly, and so we&#8217;re grateful for that.&#8221;

Trump officially nominated Gaetz, who is one of his most hardcore supporters and defenders, on Wednesday to serve as the next attorney general.
“Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William &amp; Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice,” Trump posted on social media.
Trump said that ending the weaponization of the justice system was one of his top priorities and that Gaetz would focus on that issue along with prosecuting drug cartels.
“On the House Judiciary Committee, which performs oversight of DOJ, Matt played a key role in defeating the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and exposing alarming and systemic Government Corruption and Weaponization,” Trump said.
“Matt will root out the systemic corruption at DOJ, and return the Department to its true mission of fighting Crime, and upholding our Democracy and Constitution,” he added. “We must have Honesty, Integrity, and Transparency at DOJ. Under Matt’s leadership, all Americans will be proud of the Department of Justice once again.”

CNN&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/scott-jennings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Scott Jennings</a> said on Wednesday that watching the picks that President-elect Donald Trump has selected for his new administration have made the current transition &#8220;the most entertaining&#8221; one that he has ever seen.
Jennings made the remarks on the network&#8217;s &#8220;News Central&#8221; show as Trump made a slew of announcements late in the afternoon, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for U.S. Attorney General.
“Are you not entertained?” Jennings asked. “I mean, this is the most entertaining transition I’ve ever seen. I was as surprised as Paula because it was not a name we have seen. We have seen some reporting, a lot of different names, frankly a lot of sort of well-heeled Washington legal types that were on the list. So, I’m as surprised as anyone.”

President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> announced Wednesday that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-expected-to-tap-stephen-miller-for-top-policy-position" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stephen Miller</a> would be returning to the White House to be his Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor.
Miller, who was a top policy advisor and speechwriter for Trump during his first term, recently worked as senior advisor to Trump’s campaign and the president of <a href="https://aflegal.org/about/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">America First Legal</a>. Miller is known for his strong advocacy for securing the border and deporting illegal immigrants and helped develop Trump’s immigration policy during his first administration.
America First Legal, which was formed in 2021, has made a name for itself by filing lawsuits challenging the Biden administration and woke corporations. Most recently, it <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-strikes-down-biden-parole-program-for-half-a-million-illegal-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won a lawsuit</a> against an illegal immigrant parole program rolled out by the Department of Homeland Security.
Miller has promised a major crackdown on illegal immigration, and reducing legal migration into the United States as well.
“Any activists who doubt President Trump’s resolve in the slightest are making a drastic error: Trump will unleash the vast arsenal of federal powers to implement the most spectacular migration crackdown,” Miller said last year.
Trump made the <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/113477113500861692" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announcement</a> on Wednesday, noting that he had tapped Dan Scavinio, James Blair, and Taylor Budowich for other key White House roles.

Scavinio will be an assistant to the president and deputy chief of staff for Trump, who referred to him as one of his “longest serving and most trusted aides.” Scavino was another member of Trump’s re-election team.
Blair will be an assistant to the president and the deputy chief of staff for legislative, political, and public affairs. During Trump’s 2024 campaign, Blair worked as the political director for the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee. According to Trump, Blair managed “hundreds of staff” and oversaw “a wide portfolio of political operations and programs” during the campaign.
Budowich will be an assistant to Trump and serve as the deputy chief of staff for communications and personnel. He previously held a senior role in several pro-Trump political action committees.

Bush, where he served as a special assistant to the president after working on both his 2000 and 2004 campaigns. President-elect Donald Trump and President Joe Biden are set to meet at the White House on Wednesday as Trump prepares for his second term.
The meeting, which is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET, will take place just over a week after Trump cruised to a landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, the candidate who replaced Biden on the ticket in July after the president&#8217;s fellow Democrats urged him to drop out of the race. It will be a rare meeting between the two presidents. After the 2020 election, Trump declined to invite Biden to the White House as he continued to challenge the election results.
Trump&#8217;s visit with Biden in the Oval Office also marks his first return to the White House since the end of his first term on January 20, 2021.

Last week, Biden called Trump to congratulate him on his election victory and promise a smooth transition of power.

President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump&#8217;s</a> border czar, Tom Homan, said during an interview on Tuesday that he has received &#8220;thousands&#8221; of messages from former border and immigration officials who want to return now that a pro-law enforcement administration is getting ready to come back into power.
Homan made the remarks during an interview with David Webb on SiriusXM’s “The David Webb Show” when asked about what additional government resources he needs to carry out Trump&#8217;s proposed mass deportations.
&#8220;A lot of guys retired early or left because they weren&#8217;t able to do the job they took an oath to do,&#8221; he said. &#8220;So we need more manpower. DOD has helped several administrations on the border. They could be a force multiplier.&#8221;
He noted that using manpower from the Pentagon does not mean that he will be sending the military into U.S. cities and arresting people.
&#8220;The DOD could be used to help relieve law enforcement officers from administrative duties so they can get on the street and do what they&#8217;re supposed to be doing,&#8221; he said. &#8220;For instance, DOD could help with transportation. They could help ground transportation, they could help with air flights out. They can help with infrastructure building. They could help with intelligence. Things that don&#8217;t require immigration authority. So if DOD can help me, great. Other agencies, we&#8217;d love their help.&#8221;

He said that it was unfortunate that Democrat governors were already digging in to shield illegal aliens from having to face U.S. law enforcement.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t understand what city or state would not want to assist in removing public safety threats from their community, removing national security threats from their community,&#8221; he said. &#8220;But I&#8217;ll tell you this, if they don&#8217;t want to help us, just get the hell outta the way. He said that in just the last two days, he has received &#8220;thousands of texts and emails from retired border patrol agents, retired ICE agents, retired police officers, guys that just got outta the military that want to come help.&#8221;

Pete Hegseth, the Fox News host and <a href="https://www.airandspaceforces.com/trump-national-security-team-takes-shape-hegseth-named-as-secdef/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Army National Guard veteran</a> who President-elect Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-taps-pete-hegseth-fox-host-and-army-vet-as-defense-secretary" target="_blank" rel="noopener">picked</a> on Tuesday to be his secretary of defense, wrote the literal book on how woke ideology has conquered the military.
In &#8220;The War on Warriors: Behind the Betrayal of the Men who Keep us Free,&#8221; Hegseth&#8217;s fifth book, he wrote about personally witnessing the military go through changes. In fact, he says he was pushed out of the Army because of those changes.
&#8220;I joined the Army in 2001 because I wanted to serve my country. Extremists attacked us on 9/11, and we went to war. I became an infantry officer in 2003. I guarded terrorists at Guantánamo Bay in 2004. I led men in combat in Iraq in 2005. I pulled bodies out of burning vehicles in Afghanistan in 2012. I held a riot shield outside the White House in 2020,&#8221; he wrote in the introduction.
&#8220;And in 2021, I was deemed an ‘extremist’ by that very same Army,&#8221; he added, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/new-book-war-warriors-pete-hegseth-highlights-woke-military" target="_blank" rel="noopener">per Fox News</a>. &#8220;Yes, you read that right. Twenty years … and the military I loved, I fought for, I revered … spit me out. While writing this book, I separated from an Army that didn&#8217;t want me anymore. Hearkening back to the run-up to President Joe Biden&#8217;s inauguration in 2021, Hegseth recalled being ordered as part of the National Guard to defend the event — that is until a commander called and said he was no longer needed. Hegseth said that during the writing of his book, he &#8220;spoke to someone who was privy to the decision-making&#8221; and this person said the chain of command went through his social media and saw that he had the Jerusalem cross and dubbed it a &#8220;white extremist tattoo&#8221; and that he was a &#8220;threat and an extremist,&#8221; leading to the revocation of his orders.

Hegseth said that &#8220;especially under Obama, the focus became, ‘No, no, no, no, what about these gender issues? What about these trans issues? What about these women in combat issues? What about climate change?’ And certainly under Biden, it’s been, ‘What about extremism?'&#8221;
Young soldiers joining the armed forces are bombarded with “woke ideology” during training, he said, adding: &#8220;You mentioned the warriors are just as good as they’ve always been. I agree, kind of. The challenge is because it’s a top-down organization, you start pushing things like DEI, now your young lieutenants and your young privates going through basic or going through ROTC or going through West Point are getting that woke ideology as part of their training.&#8221;
Hegseth also explained how the death of George Floyd in 2020 led Department of Defense leadership to address a supposed &#8220;systematic problem&#8221; of racism in the military: &#8220;The Left knows that by pushing DEI, now they’ve got black soldiers looking at white soldiers and white soldiers looking at black soldiers wondering who really deserved what or why they’re in a position, which is really toxic for an organization primed on unity.&#8221;
