President-elect Donald Trump and President Joe Biden are set to meet at the White House on Wednesday as Trump prepares for his second term.

The meeting, which is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET, will take place just over a week after Trump cruised to a landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, the candidate who replaced Biden on the ticket in July after the president’s fellow Democrats urged him to drop out of the race. It will be a rare meeting between the two presidents. After the 2020 election, Trump declined to invite Biden to the White House as he continued to challenge the election results.

Trump’s visit with Biden in the Oval Office also marks his first return to the White House since the end of his first term on January 20, 2021.

“I’m sure it will be a bitter pill for President Biden but a moment of sweet revenge in some ways for President Trump, to come back to the place he had to give up four years ago but come back with a truly significant victory, including the popular vote, which a Republican hasn’t won in a long time,” a former Trump campaign official, who remained anonymous, told The Hill.

During the 2024 campaign, Biden repeatedly labeled Trump a “threat to democracy,” claiming last January that Trump is “willing to sacrifice our democracy, put himself in power.” Just days after an assassin in Butler, Pennsylvania, nearly killed Trump, Biden again suggested that Trump represented a threat to the U.S. A week before the election, Biden also referred to Trump’s supporters as “garbage,” sparking outrage among Republicans, including Trump.

Last week, Biden called Trump to congratulate him on his election victory and promise a smooth transition of power.

“I assured him that I would direct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. That’s what the American people deserve,” Biden said.

After talking with Biden, Trump is expected to meet with Republicans in Congress as GOP senators gather to pick their new leader. Along with Trump’s election victory, Republicans also flipped control of the Senate and maintained control of the House.

Trump has already nominated multiple people for positions in his new cabinet, including combat veteran and Fox News host Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary, South Dakota Republican Governor Kristi Noem for Homeland Security Secretary, and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) for U.S. ambassador to the U.N.
