Democrats in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/michigan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan&#8217;s</a> state House are attempting to ram through &#8220;radical&#8221; sex education changes in the weeks before control of the body flips back to Republicans.
Earlier this week, nearly two dozen Michigan House Democrats introduced <a href="https://legislature.mi.gov/documents/2023-2024/billintroduced/House/pdf/2024-HIB-6068.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">HB 6068</a>, which seeks to make major changes to the Revised School Code Act of 1976. The changes range from allowing schools to distribute condoms to giving schools a green light to teach students that abortion is a &#8220;method of family planning&#8221; and &#8220;reproductive health.&#8221;
One of the biggest revisions proposed in the new bill is to remove a ban on distributing &#8220;a family planning drug or device&#8221; on public school property. The proposed amendments to the 1976 law would also add leftist gender terms and require that schools &#8220;affirmatively recognize that individuals have different sexual orientations and gender identities and, when discussing or providing examples of relationships, be inclusive of various gender relationships.&#8221;
While the changes would still allow schools to teach that abstinence is a &#8220;responsible and effective method&#8221; of preventing pregnancy and infections, the bill would remove a line referring to abstinence as &#8220;a positive lifestyle for unmarried people.&#8221; The new bill also keeps in place an option for parents to pull their children out of sex ed.
Some Republicans have raised alarms about HB 6068, with Republican state Rep. Jaime Greene calling it &#8220;a clear overreach that strips away the foundational emphasis on abstinence, undermining a responsible approach to sexual health education.&#8221;
&#8220;It introduces sensitive topics like gender identity, sexual orientation, and reproductive rights, which many parents feel are completely inappropriate for young students,&#8221; Greene added in a statement.
Greene told The Daily Wire in a phone call on Thursday that &#8220;people are tired of partisan politics&#8221; and she expects many parents to opt their children out of sex education if the bill passes. Greene stressed that teaching age-appropriate sex education is still important, but said that Democrats&#8217; proposed changes to the 1976 law aren&#8217;t in line with the average Michigan resident.
&#8220;Sex ed is supposed to be teaching about biology and how your body works, how it makes a baby, not necessarily you&#8217;re identity,&#8221; she said.
The bill was referred to the Education Committee after it was introduced by state Reps. Rachel Hood, Emily Dievendorf, Samantha Steckloff, Kara Hope, Veronica Paiz, Natalie Price, Jenn Hill, Penolope Tsernoglou, Lauri Pohutsky, Regina Weiss, Felicia Brabec, Jennifer Conlin, Donavan McKinney, John Fitzgerald, Amos O&#8217;Neal, Cynthia Neeley, Julie Brixie, Carrie Rheingans, Phil Skaggs, Noah Arbit, Kimberly Edwards, and Helena Scott — all Democrats.
Hood, one of the bill&#8217;s strongest advocates, <a href="https://www.bridgemi.com/talent-education/michigan-dems-want-overhaul-sex-ed-allow-schools-distribute-condoms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Bridge Michigan, “Comprehensive sex education takes a wider lens: enabling students to make healthy choices for themselves and their relationships — and lets these conversations begin long before sex or puberty at developmentally appropriate levels.”
Pohutsky, the Speaker Pro Tempore, said the bill &#8220;is absolutely a priority&#8221; for her to get passed in the lame duck session, which continues until the end of December. Greene blasted Democrats for continuing to push a &#8220;radical agenda&#8221; in Michigan despite losing the state House in the election.

&#8220;Clearly Michigan spoke, and we had a major overturn in a lot of school boards as well just on the transgender issue,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We&#8217;re exploiting children for political gain and for a political ideology that has just taken off in the last couple of years and is not what most people in our country or even in the world actually believe.&#8221;
The Daily Wire has reached out to Pohutsky for comment.
Republicans took back control of the state House in the 2024 election and will hold 58 of the 110 seats at the beginning of January. If the sex ed reform bill is passed before then, it would go to the Democrat-controlled Michigan Senate, and then to the desk of Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Daily Wire host Michael Knowles discussed the election victory of Democrat Sarah, formerly Tim, McBride on Thursday after McBride became the first trans-identifying politician elected to Congress.
McBride, a man who identifies as a woman, won the race for Delaware&#8217;s at-large district by nearly 16 points over Republican John Whalen. Knowles wrote in a thread on X that McBride&#8217;s election presents some pivotal questions for House Republicans.
&#8220;McBride is now a congressman. Will Republicans stand firm against this dangerous ideology? Or will they call the man &#8216;Sarah&#8217; and invite him into the women’s bathroom?&#8221; he asked.

The congressman-elect was elected to the Delaware state Senate in 2020 and previously worked as a campaign staffer during the late Beau Biden&#8217;s 2010 re-election race for Delaware Attorney General. During his time as a state senator, McBride has pushed for allowing boys to compete in girls&#8217; sports and for allowing children to undergo life-altering gender surgeries.

Knowles argued in an X thread that McBride received a career boost after identifying as transgender.
&#8220;After declaring himself &#8216;Sarah,&#8217; this otherwise unremarkable former staffer for Beau Biden was appointed to major activist roles and given a platform to address the US Department of the Interior, Department of Justice, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and more,&#8221; Knowles wrote.

The close election between Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) and Republican Dave McCormick is heading for a recount automatically triggered by state law, election officials said on Wednesday.
Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/pennsylvania-senate-race-triggers-recount-mccormick-projected-win-casey-yet-concede" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the fewer than 27,000-vote margin (0.39 percentage points) requires the state to conduct a recount. State law <a href="https://www.pa.gov/en/agencies/dos/newsroom/unofficial-results-in-u-s--senate-race-trigger-legally-required-.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">requires</a> a recount if &#8220;vote totals [are] within the one-half of 1 percent.&#8221; Multiple outlets, including the Associated Press and Fox News, called the race for McCormick, giving Republicans 53 seats in the Senate, but Casey has refused to concede.
The recount must begin no later than November 20 and finish by noon on November 26, with results published on November 27. Election officials estimated the recount would cost Pennsylvania residents more than $1 million. Since 2004, four automatic recounts have been carried out in Pennsylvania — all of which affirmed the initial results, according to Fox News.
McCormick&#8217;s team remains confident that he will win the race, with spokeswoman Elizabeth Gregory saying that Casey&#8217;s deficit is too much to overcome. With 99% of the ballots counted, McCormick holds 3,383,676 votes to Casey&#8217;s 3,357,191 votes.
&#8220;Senator-elect McCormick’s lead is insurmountable, which the AP made clear in calling the race,&#8221; Gregory said in a statement. &#8220;A recount will be a waste of time and taxpayer money but it is Senator Casey’s prerogative. Senator-elect McCormick knows what it’s like to lose an election and is sure Senator Casey will eventually reach the right conclusion.&#8221;
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) initially did not invite McCormick to the Senate orientation. However, after <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/schumer-caves-invites-mccormick-to-senate-orientation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pressure</a> from his colleagues, the Democratic leader reached out to McCormick, and the Republican attended the orientation earlier this week.

Casey, who has served three terms in the Senate, doubled down on waiting for all the ballots to be counted before conceding, saying in a video posted on Tuesday, &#8220;My priority has always been standing up for the people of Pennsylvania. Across our commonwealth, close to 7 million people cast their votes in a free and fair election. President-elect Donald Trump and President Joe Biden are set to meet at the White House on Wednesday as Trump prepares for his second term.

At least two people were killed and nearly a dozen wounded when a factory in Louisville, Kentucky, was destroyed in an explosion on Tuesday.
All of the victims are employees of Givaudan Sense Colour, a factory that produces caramel color for soft drinks, ABC&#8217;s Louisville affiliate WHAS 11 <a href="https://www.whas11.com/article/news/local/2-people-dead-large-factory-explosion-louisville/417-a05bfdd5-6dd4-40cf-ab4c-11918f041b6d" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Images of the explosion&#8217;s aftermath showed that a large portion of the factory&#8217;s roof had caved as smoke rose into the air. The blast blew out windows in some houses in the Clifton neighborhood, the area that surrounds the factory,
Immediately after the explosion, city officials told people within a one-mile radius to shelter in place since hazardous materials could have leaked into the air. Around two hours later, officials said there was no longer a threat. The cause of the blast is still under investigation.

Twelve people were transported to the hospital following the explosion, and two of them who were in critical condition died overnight, according to WHAS 11.

Tuesday&#8217;s deadly explosion was not the first at the location. In 2003, when the building was owned by D.D. Williamson, one worker was killed when a &#8220;process vessel became over pressurized&#8221; and released 26,000 pounds of aqueous ammonia into the air, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/12/us/explosion-louisville-kentucky/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
“And you would think that after one explosion, it wouldn’t happen again. But here we are,” said Lorrie Hibbard, whose grandfather was killed in the 2003 accident. “All I heard was that there was an explosion at the plant again, and it just takes you right back to 2003.”

John Ratcliffe served as Trump&#8217;s Director of National Intelligence for a year at the end of the president&#8217;s first term. <h3>Sen. Mike Lee</h3>
Utah Senator Mike Lee has been one of the most conservative lawmakers in Washington, D.C., for over a decade. Lee has an extensive legal background, serving as a clerk for the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, clerking for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, and working as an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Utah. He served as Utah Governor Jon Huntsman Jr.&#8217;s general counsel before his election to the Senate in 2010.
Lee won his third term in office in 2022. He was a strong critic of Trump in 2016, <a href="https://apnews.com/general-news-bde9ab70ff2a41ef8e779b565421876e" target="_blank" rel="noopener">voting</a> for independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin. Lee, however, quickly became a staunch Trump ally of Trump. Six years later, Trump backed Lee&#8217;s re-election bid when McMullin challenged him for the Senate in an election that Lee won by over 10 points.
Lee <a href="https://thedispatch.com/article/mike-lees-journey-from-trump-critic-to-trump-supporter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The Dispatch earlier this year that after Trump started governing in 2017, Lee saw that &#8220;he aligned a lot more with Republican ideals than I expected. In some areas, I was particularly surprised how well things went.&#8221;
Asked about a possible role in the Trump administration last week, Lee <a href="https://www.deseret.com/politics/2024/11/07/sen-mike-lee-trump-administration/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Deseret News, &#8220;I have the job I want.&#8221;

ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/judge-tossed-trumps-classified-docs-case-list-proposed/story?id=114997807" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> last month that District Court Judge Aileen Cannon, who threw out the classified documents case against Trump earlier this year, appeared on a Trump ream document as a potential attorney general pick. The document was reportedly written by Trump&#8217;s top advisers. Cannon <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-dismisses-trump-classified-documents-case" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dismissed</a> the classified documents case against Trump in July, ruling that &#8220;Special Counsel Smith’s appointment violates the Appointments Clause of the U.S. Constitution.&#8221;
Cannon, whom Trump appointed in 2020, was born in Colombia and grew up in Miami. From 2008 to 2009, she clerked for Steven Colloton, a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in Iowa. Cannon was then an assistant United States <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/08/28/trump-special-master-fbi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attorney</a> for the Southern District of Florida from 2013 to 2020.
Cannon also presided over the case of Ryan Routh, who was charged with attempting to assassinate Trump at his West Palm Beach, Florida, golf course in September. Routh&#8217;s lawyers have <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/deadline-white-house/deadline-legal-blog/aileen-cannon-attorney-general-trump-report-rcna176787" target="_blank" rel="noopener">asked</a> Cannon to recuse herself from the case, citing her potential appointment to a higher position in the second Trump administration.

A candidate who already has some experience in the position is former Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, whom Trump tapped to fill the position for a short time between the stints of Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr.
Whitaker served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa from 2004 until 2009. He then worked as a managing partner of a general practice law firm in Des Moines, Iowa, from 2009 to 2017. Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions appointed Whitaker to serve as his chief of staff in 2017. After Sessions resigned in November 2018, Whitaker was tapped by Trump to serve as Acting Attorney General, a position he held until February 2019 when Barr took over.

Another name floated for AG is the recently appointed Missouri Attorney General, Andrew Bailey. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson appointed Bailey after former Missouri AG Eric Schmitt ran for Senate and won in 2022. As the state&#8217;s chief law enforcement officer, Bailey has challenged the Biden administration in dozens of lawsuits including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/missouri-accuses-biden-admin-of-diversion-tactics-hiding-info-about-illegal-migrants-in-lawsuit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accusing</a> the federal government of &#8220;hid[ing] information from Americans&#8221; about &#8220;flying of illegal immigrants into Missouri.&#8221;
Bailey served as general counsel of the Missouri Department of Corrections and as general counsel for Parson. As attorney general, Bailey has also gone after the abortion drug <a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2024/10/22/missouri-mifepristone-lawsuit-andrew-bailey-teen-pregnancy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mifepristone</a>, arguing that it is too dangerous and seeking to ensure “long-standing safety requirements” are put in place for the drug.
In 2023, Bailey announced new restrictions on gender procedures for adults and children. The new rules required people to undergo 18 months of therapy before receiving gender treatments.
As Trump continues to announce cabinet positions following his election victory, the attorney general pick could come at any time. Trump&#8217;s pick then must be confirmed by a majority of the Senate, which will be under Republican control beginning in January.

McCormick leads Casey by more than 35,000 votes, with 99% of the ballots counted. Schumer initially did not send invitations for Senate orientation to McCormick or Arizona Democrat Ruben Gallego, but after pressure from colleagues, Schumer changed his mind, POLITICO <a href="https://x.com/burgessev/status/1856317748948639840?s=46&amp;t=o-U3qwC25WnWaylJ0oeG7Q" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
&#8220;Ruben Gallego and David McCormick have been invited to attend orientation,&#8221; a spokesman for Schumer said on Tuesday.
Multiple outlets have yet to declare a winner in the Pennsylvania race, and Casey, a three-term senator, is still telling voters he is waiting for more ballots to be counted.
&#8220;Our Commonwealth ran a free and fair election, and we are still waiting on the final results,&#8221; he <a href="https://x.com/Bob_Casey/status/1856063317741117611" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> on Monday. &#8220;Our election officials will continue counting ballots and ensure that Pennsylvanians’ voices are heard.&#8221;
Multiple senators, however, urged Schumer to extend the invitations to McCormick and Gallego. Outgoing Sen. They should be invited to orientation &amp; start learning the job.&#8221;

Morale among U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents has skyrocketed following Donald Trump&#8217;s landslide election victory last week, according to National Border Patrol Council President Paul Perez.
Trump made illegal immigration and border security central parts of his 2024 platform, promising to finish his southern border wall and conduct the largest deportation operation in U.S. history. Perez told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/border-patrol-morale-through-roof-after-trumps-re-election-union-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a> in an interview on Monday that &#8220;morale is through the roof&#8221; among Border Patrol agents, adding, &#8220;We’ve received hundreds of calls, texts, emails, just saying how happy the agents are.&#8221;
&#8220;There are a lot of agents that had originally said that they would retire if President Trump did not win. And now those same agents are saying they&#8217;re going to hold back on their retirement because they want to serve under this administration again, because they know exactly how it was during this first administration, and they know this one&#8217;s going to be even better,&#8221; he continued.

Homan made a name for himself during the first Trump administration after being appointed acting director of ICE and immediately began ramping up deportations. In the first three months of Trump&#8217;s first term and under Homan&#8217;s leadership, ICE <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/17/us/immigration-enforcement-ice-arrests.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> more than 41,000 illegal immigrants, which was a 38% increase over the same period from the year before. Homan impressed Trump as acting director, and the president tapped him to lead ICE permanently, but in April 2018, Homan <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/385526-acting-ice-director-to-retire-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that he was retiring over &#8220;family and personal considerations.&#8221;
Shortly after he stepped down, Homan testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship. He got into a heated exchange with Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) while urging Democrats in Congress to work with the Trump administration.

Homan joined the Heritage Foundation in 2022, contributing to <a href="https://static.project2025.org/2025_MandateForLeadership_FULL.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Project 2025</a>, a conservative &#8220;mandate for leadership&#8221; for a new Trump administration from which Trump distanced himself during the 2024 campaign. In 2022, Homan testified in a Congressional hearing over the Trump administration&#8217;s family separation policy. During that hearing, Homan responded to questioning from leftist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), saying separation policies for illegal immigrants are &#8220;the same as it is when you have a U.S. citizen parent who gets arrested when they&#8217;re with a child.&#8221;
&#8220;If I get arrested for a DUI and have a young child in the car, I&#8217;m going to be separated. When I was a police officer in New York and I arrested a father for domestic violence, I separated that father from the family,&#8221; Homan added.
&#8220;Mr. Homan, with all due respect, legal asylees are not charged with any crime,&#8221; Ocasio-Cortez said.
&#8220;When you enter the country illegally, it&#8217;s a violation of United States Code 1325,&#8221; Homan shot back. &#8220;If you want to seek asylum, go through the port of entry, do it the legal way. The attorney general of the United States has made that clear.&#8221;

“Is there a way to carry out mass deportation without separating families?” asked CBS News&#8217; Cecilia Vega.

The illegal immigrant who pled guilty to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/once-deported-illegal-immigrant-charged-with-murder-in-shooting-death-of-25-year-old-michigan-woman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">murdering</a> 25-year-old Ruby Garcia of Grand Rapids, Michigan, earlier this year was sentenced to 39 years behind bars on Thursday.
Brandon Ortiz-Vite, <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/michigan/2024/11/08/man-sentenced-michigan-killing-stoked-anti-immigrant-campaign-rhetoric/76128932007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">26</a>, was deported under the Trump administration in 2020, but illegally re-entered the U.S. &#8220;at an unknown date,&#8221; according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Ortiz-Vite, who is from Durango and Puebla, Mexico, shot and killed Garcia on March 22 and dumped her body beside the road. The two, who were friends, had gotten into an argument before the illegal immigrant murdered the 25-year-old Michigan woman.
Ortiz-Vite accepted a plea deal with prosecutors who agreed to drop a first-degree murder charge for a second-degree murder charge. Kent County, Michigan, Circuit Court Judge Mark A. Trusock sentenced him to 39 years in prison on Thursday, News Channel 3 <a href="https://wwmt.com/news/local/brandon-ortiz-vite-ruby-garcia-murder-grand-rapids-prison-sentence-crime-investigation-police-state-michigan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
&#8220;You, sir, are a cold blooded murderer,&#8221; Trusock told the killer. &#8220;This was intentional, and you are a danger to society.&#8221;
In court, Ortiz-Vite told the Garcia family that he is &#8220;full of guilt and shame.&#8221;
&#8220;I know right now my words hold little, if any, value to the Garcia family, which is understandable,&#8221; he said. &#8220;As a man, I stand before you humbly full of guilt and shame.&#8221;
The murder added to the nationwide outrage over the Biden administration&#8217;s porous southern border. Garcia was murdered just a month after Georgia nursing student <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-charged-with-laken-rileys-murder-is-active-gang-member-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Laken Riley</a> was brutally killed by a Venezuelan illegal immigrant while she was on a run. Last month, President-elect Donald Trump, who made immigration a central part of his campaign, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/trump-calls-death-penalty-migrants-kill-us-citizens-rcna175131" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> for the death penalty &#8220;for any migrant who kills an American citizen or a law enforcement officer.&#8221;
A Michigan State Police sergeant testified in court that Ortiz-Vite and Garcia got into a heated argument before Ortiz-Vite reached for his gun. Forensic pathologist David Start said that the illegal immigrant shot the young woman four times, including twice in the head.
“You started shooting when you were in the car, then took her out of the car, put the gun to her head and pulled the trigger and shot her again,&#8221; Judge Trusock said.
Two days after murdering Garcia, Ortiz-Vite called 911 to turn himself over to police.

“I could have easily blown my brains out, but I wanted to accept my responsibility for my actions,&#8221; he said at his sentencing.
After serving his sentence in prison, Ortiz-Vite will likely be deported back to Mexico, Kent County Prosecutor Christopher Becker said. Ortiz-Vite will be 65 at the time of his release.
