ABC News personality Sunny Hostin sparked a wave of backlash on Monday when she claimed that January 6th was among the worst moments in American history — and proceeded to compare it to “World War II, the Holocaust, and chattel slavery.”

Hostin claimed on “The View” that “you don’t move on” from the riot that took place on Capitol Hill on January 6th, 2021: “You don’t move on because January 6th was an atrocity. It was one of the worst moments in American history. And when you think about the worst moments in American history like World War II, things that happened like the Holocaust, chattel slavery.”

Critics called her out for making the comparison, noting that a three-hour riot during which one person was killed was hardly comparable to a global war, slavery, or the systematic slaughter of more than six million Jews.

“Left-wingers are so mentally deranged that they think a three-hour riot where no one was killed except by police is comparable to … the Holocaust. The. Holocaust,” Red State’s Bonchie posted.

“The dumbest person on daily TV, Sunny Hostin, compares January 6th, 2021 to the Holocaust, says it was similarly bad,” OutKick founder Clay Travis added.

“What an insult to every Jewish person on the planet, past and present. Breathtaking minimizing of one of the worst things to happen in human history. ABC will have to apologize, I bet,” CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings.

“… and for that matter, an insult to the memory of every slave who was ever held or veteran who died defeating the forces of tyranny in WW2. Geez. This statement doesn’t get any lower,” Jennings concluded.

“Look how stupid everything has become,” Omri Ceren posted.

Others pointed out that beyond the United States’ role in helping bring about its end, the Holocaust was not an American historical event — and that her other two comparisons had been global rather than solely American.

“I don’t know about you, maybe an unpopular opinion, but I think America did pretty damn good winning World War II,” Ben Domenech posted.
