California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) fumbled a confrontation with a distraught woman on Thursday afternoon who experienced personal loss during the ongoing fires in Los Angeles.

The exchange happened after fires tore through the area this week, destroying thousands of structures to the tune of billions of dollars in damages.

“That was my daughter’s school, governor,” the woman said. “Please tell me what you’re going to do.”

Newsom pointed to his phone and said, “I am literally talking to president right now to specifically answer the question of what we can do for you and your daughter.”

“Can I hear it?” the woman asked. “Can I hear your call? Because I don’t believe it!”

“I can’t–, it doesn’t–, uh, I’m sorry, there’s literally, I’ve tried five times,” Newsom said. “That’s why I’m walking around to make the call.”

When the woman asked Newsom why President Joe Biden was not taking his call, Newsom responded: “Because it’s not going through, so I have to get cell service, there’s no cell service.”

“So let’s get it,” the woman continued. “Let’s get it. I want to be here when you call the president.”

Newsom declined and said that he was calling the president right now.

“Why was there no water in the hydrants, governor?” the woman asked. “I would fill up the hydrants myself, would you do that?”

Newsom managed to get a staffer to get between him and the woman so he could slip into his SUV and drive off.
