California Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/gavin-newsom" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gavin Newsom</a> (D) fumbled a confrontation with a distraught woman on Thursday afternoon who experienced personal loss during the ongoing fires in Los Angeles.
The exchange happened after fires tore through the area this week, destroying thousands of structures to the tune of billions of dollars in damages.
&#8220;That was my daughter&#8217;s school, governor,&#8221; the woman said. &#8220;Please tell me what you&#8217;re going to do.&#8221;
Newsom pointed to his phone and said, &#8220;I am literally talking to president right now to specifically answer the question of what we can do for you and your daughter.&#8221;
&#8220;Can I hear it?&#8221; the woman asked. &#8220;Can I hear your call? Because I don&#8217;t believe it!&#8221;
&#8220;I can&#8217;t&#8211;, it doesn&#8217;t&#8211;, uh, I&#8217;m sorry, there&#8217;s literally, I&#8217;ve tried five times,&#8221; Newsom said. &#8220;That&#8217;s why I&#8217;m walking around to make the call.&#8221;
When the woman asked Newsom why President Joe Biden was not taking his call, Newsom responded: &#8220;Because it&#8217;s not going through, so I have to get cell service, there&#8217;s no cell service.&#8221;
&#8220;So let&#8217;s get it,&#8221; the woman continued. &#8220;Let&#8217;s get it. I want to be here when you call the president.&#8221;

Newsom declined and said that he was calling the president right now.
&#8220;Why was there no water in the hydrants, governor?&#8221; the woman asked. &#8220;I would fill up the hydrants myself, would you do that?&#8221;
Newsom managed to get a staffer to get between him and the woman so he could slip into his SUV and drive off.

The fires, which began on Tuesday, have been spread by powerful Santa Ana winds, destroying more than 1,300 structures, as firefighters struggle to contain the blaze. Over 170,000 have been given evacuation notices as multiple major fires have broken out in the county including the Palisades Fire (17,234 acres), the Eaton Fire (10,600 acres), the Hurst Fire (855 acres), Sunset Fire (43 acres), and the Lidia Fire (348 acres).

Acting ICE Director P.J. Lechleitner was asked by NBC News if Biden &#8220;should have taken that action earlier&#8221; to secure the southern border to stop millions of illegal aliens from entering the country.

Los Angeles Democrat Mayor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/karen-bass" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Karen Bass</a> stood silent as reporters asked her tough questions on Wednesday about her handling of the devastating fires that erupted in her city while she was out of the country.
The questions came after Bass had to return home from a trip she was taking to Ghana to see the country&#8217;s new president sworn into office.
&#8220;Do you owe citizens an apology for being absent while their homes were burning?&#8221; a reporter asked Bass at the airport.
Bass ignored the question.
&#8220;Do you regret cutting the fire department budget by millions of dollars, Madam Mayor?&#8221; the reporter continued.
Again, Bass ignored the question about why she cut millions of dollars from the fire department, the second largest cut that she made in her budget for this fiscal year.

At this point, Bass and her team began to flee from the area and sought a different way to exit from the airport.
&#8220;Do you, Madam Mayor, let me ask you, just again &#8212; have you anything to say to the citizens today as you return?&#8221; the reporter again asked. &#8220;Madam Mayor, just a few words for the citizens today as you return to deal with the catastrophe?&#8221;

The incident happened around the time that President-elect Donald Trump was set to visit the U.S. Capitol to pay his respects to the late former President Jimmy Carter.
A grounds crew worker noticed the man trying to light something on fire by his car, which was parked in front of the statute, according to a source familiar with the matter.
When asked what he was doing, the man communicated that he had &#8220;napalm&#8221; in the car and was &#8220;trying to light it on fire,&#8221; according to the source.
Napalm is a highly flammable substance that was developed by U.S. scientists during WWII and has been used on the battlefield in flamethrowers and bombs.
Capitol Police acknowledged on X that they had responded to the incident after receiving a suspicious vehicle report.
&#8220;Our officers have taken the driver into custody,&#8221; USCP said in a statement. &#8220;As is routine, our bomb squad will investigate the suspicious vehicle.&#8221;
Police shut down a wide area around the vehicle and advised the public to stay away.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, USCP arrested and charged a man for trying to bring weapons inside the Visitor Center.
Police officers stopped that man just after 2 p.m. after he “tried to get a machete into the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC),” USCP said in a statement.

&#8220;And I&#8217;m going to make a prediction,&#8221; Cruz said. &#8220;I think there is a very real possibility that we will see the hostages in Gaza released on or before January 20th.&#8221;

Former Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) said this week that a new study that was released by Rutgers University is important for understanding how communist China brainwashes Americans into not believing that it is a threat.
Gallagher, who is the former chairman of the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, made the remarks during a Tuesday interview on Fox News with Martha MacCallum.
&#8220;It&#8217;s incredibly valuable,&#8221; Gallagher said in relation to the study being used to understand why TikTok should be banned. &#8220;I think what was so unique about the initial NCRI analysis that came out in August is they use the metrics that TikTok themselves had encouraged people to explore, to defend themselves. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said during an interview this week that he will vote for President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s nominees because that is &#8220;how democracy works.&#8221;
Fetterman made the remarks during a Tuesday night Fox News interview with Bret Baier just a couple of hours after he met with former Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI), Trump&#8217;s nominee for Secretary of Transportation.
When asked by Baier if he could vote for Trump&#8217;s nominee for Director of National Intelligence, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), Fetterman responded: &#8220;Well, you know, I met with her, in fact I think I&#8217;ve met with virtually all of them, and the ones that I haven&#8217;t, they&#8217;re on my schedule, RFK and Governor Noem, so I&#8217;m happy to meet with all of them.&#8221;
&#8220;And that&#8217;s also part of this, I don&#8217;t know why that was controversial,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I mean, I got a lot of blowback just, you know, even to meet with them, and to me, I see that as just doing my job, and I&#8217;m going to have a conversation with anyone that would like to have a conversation with me.&#8221;

Canadian media reported late on Sunday night that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to resign this week as Liberal Party Leader.
The Globe and Mail <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/canada-pm-trudeau-announce-resignation-early-monday-globe-mail-reports-2025-01-06/">reported</a> on Sunday cited multiple sources in reporting that Trudeau could step down as soon as tomorrow and that it is expected to happen before a key national caucus meeting takes place on Wednesday.
Trudeau took over as leader of the far-left party in 2013 and has served as the prime minister of Canada since 2015.
Politico reported last week that the majority of his caucus had called on him to resign while he was on a ski holiday as he trails far behind populist conservative Pierre Poilievre.
Trudeau has been damaged by President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s victory last year and threats from the incoming president to hit Canada with tariffs for not helping to secure America&#8217;s northern border.
Trump has also regularly taunted Trudeau, saying he could become governor of Canada after the country joins the U.S. as the 51st state.
Multiple top officials in his administration have resigned as they lose confidence in his ability to lead.
During a meeting with Trudeau last month, Trump reportedly told the Canadian leader that if his country couldn’t afford to pay a potential tariff, it should consider becoming the 51st state.

President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s incoming border czar, Tom Homan, said during an interview over the weekend that the administration will be deporting illegal aliens from Venezuela regardless of whether or not Venezuela takes them back.
Homan made the remarks during a Sunday interview on CBS News&#8217; &#8220;Face The Nation&#8221; with Margaret Brennan, when asked about countries like Venezuela that are not accepting deportations back from the U.S.
&#8220;Well, first of all, we got President Trump coming to the Oval Office, and he&#8217;s proven during his first administration, his leadership on illegal immigration was a game changer, because, for instance, El Salvador wouldn&#8217;t take back MS-13 members when I was the ICE Director,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It took President Trump 48 hours to get El Salvador to take back their criminal aliens into their prisons.&#8221;
&#8220;And Mexico didn&#8217;t want to do the Remain in Mexico program,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;But President Trump was able to get Remain in Mexico established in Mexico. He was able to get Mexico put military on the southern and northern border.&#8221;
Homan noted that President Joe Biden was so weak that countries simply refused to take their criminal illegal aliens back and the administration never &#8220;forced these countries to take them back.&#8221;
&#8220;If for instance, Venezuela don&#8217;t take their people back, there&#8217;s other ways we can do it,&#8221; he said. &#8220;There&#8217;s other countries be willing to accept them. We&#8217;re hoping that President Trump will work with Venezuela and like he did with Mexico and El Salvador, and get these countries take them back. If they don&#8217;t, they&#8217;re still gonna be deported. They&#8217;re just gonna be deported to a different country.&#8221;

Sen. Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) suggested during an interview over the weekend that Republicans needed to have &#8220;realistic&#8221; expectations about how many deportations will happen during the next four years under President-elect Donald Trump.
Thune made the remarks during a Sunday interview on NBC News&#8217; &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; when asked about Trump&#8217;s top agenda item after taking office — the removal of millions of illegal aliens who have invaded the country under President Joe Biden.
&#8220;Certainly there are categories of people who&#8217;ve committed crimes,&#8221; he said when talking about who should be targeted first for deportation. &#8220;There are over a million people that the current administration had targeted for deportation. And so I think that we have to take seriously the fact that there are a lot of people in this country today, over 10 million, who&#8217;ve come in just in the last four years under this administration&#8217;s policies, many of whom are not here for good reasons.&#8221;
&#8220;I mean, we know we&#8217;ve apprehended almost 300 people at the southern border that are on the terrorist watch list. And you&#8217;ve got criminals, and cartel members, and gang members, and all of the above,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;So I think that as we think about what those next steps are, the first thing is securing that border, and making sure that we change the incentive structure so people aren&#8217;t incentivized to come here illegally, which they have been for the past four years, and that we do everything to ensure that the border personnel, the ICE agents and border agents, have the resources that they need to do their job.&#8221;
He said that in addition to the resources needed to remove the illegal aliens, more physical barriers were needed to secure the southern border in addition to advanced technology that can assist Border Patrol agents.
&#8220;It&#8217;s going to take resources, obviously, to get people to leave the country,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We&#8217;re going to have to make sure the administration has the resources they need to enable them to do that. Is it realistic to deport everybody? I mean, there&#8217;s a lot of people in this country who are here illegally.&#8221;
&#8220;But I think they have identified already and, like I said, anybody who has committed a crime in this country clearly out to be on that list,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And there are a bunch of folks, over a million, 1.4 million I think, on the current administration&#8217;s list of people that need to be deported. So start with that, and then we&#8217;ll go from there and figure it out. But I think that the administration when they take office, these are decisions, obviously, they&#8217;re going to have to make.&#8221;

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) denied that he and other Democrats lied to the American people over the last four years about President Joe Biden&#8217;s mental fitness for office.
Schumer made the remarks when pressed about the matter during a Sunday interview on NBC News&#8217; &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; by Kristen Welker, who offered little pushback to Schumer&#8217;s claims.
Welker played remarks that Schumer made last year when he claimed that he regularly talked with Biden, sometimes &#8220;several times in a week.&#8221;
&#8220;His mental acuity is great. It&#8217;s fine,&#8221; Schumer said. &#8220;It&#8217;s as good as it&#8217;s been over the years. All this right-wing propaganda that his mental acuity has declined is wrong.&#8221;
Welker then pressed Schumer: &#8220;What do you say to Americans who feel as though you and other top Democrats misled them about President Biden&#8217;s mental acuity?&#8221;
&#8220;No. Look, we didn&#8217;t,&#8221; Schumer claimed. &#8220;And let&#8217;s – let’s look – let’s look at President Biden. He&#8217;s had an amazing record. The legislation we passed, one of the most significant groups of legislation since the New Deal – since Lyndon Johnson&#8217;s Great Society, putting in 235 judges, a record. And he&#8217;s a patriot. He&#8217;s a great guy. And when he stepped down, he did it on his own because he thought it was better not only for the Democratic Party, for America. We should all salute him. We should all salute him.&#8221;
When asked if Biden would have won the election had he stayed in the race, Schumer would not answer the question, saying only that he was &#8220;not going to speculate.&#8221;
