Ana Navarro argued on Tuesday that Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) was a solid choice to be President-elect Donald Trump’s Secretary of State — but just a few months ago, she was singing a very different tune.
Navarro joined her cohosts on ABC’s midday talk show “The View,” where they discussed the appointments Trump has made since winning both the Electoral College and the popular vote in last Tuesday’s election. Navarro suggested that despite her opposition to Trump, Rubio was at least a choice that she could get behind.
Whoopi Goldberg opened the discussion with a clip of Rubio from the 2016 Republican primary — when the Florida senator had been campaigning against Trump for the GOP nomination — despite the fact that, in the years since, Rubio and Trump got past any differences and worked together during the first Trump administration.

Trump's appointments seem to be shutting up the doomsayers.
Ana Navarro, who usually attacks and mocks Marco Rubio, does a 180 flip:
"Marco is qualified. He's been on foreign relations in the senate for many years. I'm happy because he knows Latin America…" pic.twitter.com/EXLd5w8ixT— Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) November 12, 2024
“I’ve known Marco Rubio for a very long time,” Navarro said. “He and I grew up in Republican politics in Miami together … He’s changed a lot, he probably thinks I have, too. But I will say this: Marco is qualified. He’s been on foreign relations in the Senate for many years. I’m happy because he knows Latin America, which for me, is a region that’s often forgotten. He speaks Spanish, he knows who these leaders are, he knows what the issues are.”
“I think he’s gonna come in hot on places like Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua, which I care about enormously,” said Navarro, whose parents fled Nicaragua when she was young, said that the appointment had surprised her.

Just five months earlier, Navarro had previously referenced the fact that she’d known Rubio for a long time — but at the time, she was not touting his qualifications so much as she was trashing him outright.
Navarro made the comments for an episode of “Behind the Table” — the official podcast affiliated with “The View” — in support of her claim that he would not be Trump’s 2024 running mate.
Besides the obvious complication of both living in Florida, Navarro explained, “Marco has embarrassed himself to such a point. I mean, he’s little in stature and little in principles.”
Navarro went on to suggest he also wasn’t likely to appear as a guest on “The View” anytime soon, saying that he’d be wary of just how much she knew about him.
“Maybe if he thinks it helps his chances to get into a fight with me and the other women on ‘The View,’ he would, but he knows I know where his skeletons are hidden,” she said. “I’ve known him since we were kids.”
