Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/matt-gaetz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Matt Gaetz</a> (R-FL) resigned from U.S. Congress effectively immediately after President-elect Donald Trump announced that he was being nominated to serve as U.S. Attorney General.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced at a press conference that Gaetz &#8220;issued his resignation letter effective immediately.&#8221;
He said that Gaetz&#8217;s resignation caught House Republican leadership by surprise.
&#8220;I asked him what the reasoning was, and he said, &#8216;Well, you can&#8217;t have too many absences,'&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;So under Florida State law, there&#8217;s about an eight week period to select and fill in a vacant seat.&#8221;
Johnson said that he has already placed a call to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to start the clock on filling Gaetz&#8217;s seat.
&#8220;If we start the clock now, if you do the math, we may be able to fill that seat as early as January 3, when we take the new oath of office for the new Congress,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;So Matt would have done us a great service by making that decision as he did on the fly, and so we&#8217;re grateful for that.&#8221;

Trump officially nominated Gaetz, who is one of his most hardcore supporters and defenders, on Wednesday to serve as the next attorney general.
“Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William &amp; Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice,” Trump posted on social media.
Trump said that ending the weaponization of the justice system was one of his top priorities and that Gaetz would focus on that issue along with prosecuting drug cartels.
“On the House Judiciary Committee, which performs oversight of DOJ, Matt played a key role in defeating the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and exposing alarming and systemic Government Corruption and Weaponization,” Trump said.
“Matt will root out the systemic corruption at DOJ, and return the Department to its true mission of fighting Crime, and upholding our Democracy and Constitution,” he added. “We must have Honesty, Integrity, and Transparency at DOJ. Under Matt’s leadership, all Americans will be proud of the Department of Justice once again.”
Gaetz responded to the news by posting on X: “It will be an honor to serve as President Trump’s Attorney General!”

CNN&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/scott-jennings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Scott Jennings</a> said on Wednesday that watching the picks that President-elect Donald Trump has selected for his new administration have made the current transition &#8220;the most entertaining&#8221; one that he has ever seen.
Jennings made the remarks on the network&#8217;s &#8220;News Central&#8221; show as Trump made a slew of announcements late in the afternoon, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for U.S. Attorney General.
“Are you not entertained?” Jennings asked. “I mean, this is the most entertaining transition I’ve ever seen. I was as surprised as Paula because it was not a name we have seen. We have seen some reporting, a lot of different names, frankly a lot of sort of well-heeled Washington legal types that were on the list. So, I’m as surprised as anyone.”

Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ted-cruz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ted Cruz</a> (R-TX) mocked Vice President Kamala Harris this week over her failed presidential campaign, saying that it was like the Fyre Festival.
Cruz made the remarks during the most recent episode of his &#8220;Verdict&#8221; podcast with co-host Ben Ferguson while talking about the disastrous campaign that Harris ran, including how her campaign ended up $20 million in debt.
&#8220;Kamala Harris ran the Fyre Festival of campaigns, and it points out that Trump&#8217;s campaign spent roughly $488 million, and Kamala spent more than a billion,&#8221; Cruz said. &#8220;So, she outspent Trump more than two-to-one, and Kamala campaign ended up $20 million in debt.&#8221;
The Fyre Festival is the name of a hyped festival that was supposed to take place in 2017 that ended up falling so far below what was expected that the term &#8220;Frye Festival&#8221; is now a meme for something that is an epic disaster.
&#8220;Where did that money go? Well, one of the things that it went to is they paid many of [the] &#8216;celebrities&#8217; who supported her,&#8221; Cruz noted, adding that they were given &#8220;significant sums&#8221; of money.

President-elect Donald Trump got immediate backlash when he nominated decorated U.S. Army veteran and Ivy League graduate Pete Hegseth to be his incoming Defense Secretary, with most critics harping on the fact that Hegseth also happened to be a regular cohost on Fox News.
In turn, Hegseth has gotten a fair amount of backlash for his unequivocal statement in a recent interview about the idea of female service members serving in combat roles.
&#8220;I&#8217;m straight up just saying we should not have women in combat roles,&#8221; Hegseth said on &#8220;The Shawn Ryan Show,&#8221; adding, &#8220;It hasn&#8217;t made us more effective, hasn&#8217;t made us more lethal, has made fighting more complicated. We&#8217;ve all served with women and they&#8217;re great, just — our institution don&#8217;t have to incentivize that in places where traditionally — not traditionally, over human history — men in those positions are more capable.&#8221;

As a woman who served proudly in the U.S. Army for ten years — five years in the Army Reserve and five on active duty — I wholeheartedly agree with Hegseth here: women should not be placed in combat roles.
It&#8217;s important to understand that I&#8217;m not saying — and neither is Hegseth, as far as I can tell — that there are no women who could handle combat. I&#8217;m quite certain that some women could, just as I&#8217;m certain that there are a fair number of men who could not.
I&#8217;m also not saying that, even if they weren&#8217;t supposed to be in combat roles, some women won&#8217;t end up in combat scenarios in the chaos of war. History is replete with examples of the heroics of non-combatants, so we know that happens. That is the reason that every soldier, regardless of sex or occupational specialty, spends the first ten weeks in the Army completing Basic Combat Training (BCT). Males and females alike train on weapons like the M16-A2 rifle, hand grenades, and Claymore mines. I even got the chance during training to fire an AT-4 rocket launcher into a junkyard full of retired tanks (five stars, highly recommend).
What I am saying, however, is that putting women in combat should not be the goal, and the reason for that is simple: most can&#8217;t — and shouldn&#8217;t — handle it. And that fact is made abundantly clear by the fact that most, &#8220;G.I. Jane&#8221; notwithstanding, can&#8217;t even make it through training and meet the standards set for men in the same roles.
What Hegseth said on that point was exactly right: women in combat roles have not made the military &#8220;more effective&#8221; or &#8220;more lethal.&#8221;
When then Defense Secretary Leon Panetta opened combat roles to women in 2013, I participated in a panel discussion on <a href="https://danaloesch.com/on-women-in-combat/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Dana Loesch Radio Show</a> (along with Air Force veteran Stacey Washington) and predicted exactly what the fallout would be when women were allowed in combat — and I said more or less exactly what Hegseth did.
&#8220;The real issue is this: do we want a military that is first and foremost a formidable fighting force or one that is first and foremost dedicated to enforced equality? We can’t have both,&#8221; I said at the time.
I went on to explain:
<blockquote>The military is strong in part because it is the most discriminatory workplace in the nation. You can be kept out, fired, or barred from promotion simply for being too tall, too short, too thin, too fat, too sick, too injured, too stupid, and the list goes on. Every move [the military] has made in the direction of political correctness has been a move away from strength.
From the very first day that women were allowed to serve in the military, they have been held to a lower standard than the men who held the same positions. Even as far back as WWII, by regulation the bench seats in standard transport trucks were designated to hold eight men. The same regulation stated that only seven women would fit on the same bench seat, in an effort to ensure that female Marines were given enough space to remain comfortable during transport. Today’s Army physical training tests require much higher standards of men than of women – men are required to run faster and do more push ups than women who have the same MOS (military operational specialty).</blockquote>
&#8220;Every time a job is opened to women in the military, instead of demanding that the women meet the same standards set by the men, they create a new (nearly always lower) standard for the women,&#8221; I concluded at the time. &#8220;As more and more women qualify for jobs based on these lowered standards, the efficiency and overall performance of the unit as a whole is decreased. To add close combat jobs to that list is asking for an Army that cannot help but be weakened as the standards for such jobs are lowered in the name of &#8216;equality.'&#8221;
This is, across the board, exactly what happened in the years since Panetta opened the doors to women in combat roles, and Hegseth is absolutely correct that it has done nothing to increase the efficiency and lethality — the primary reasons for its existence — of our military.

President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> announced Wednesday that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-expected-to-tap-stephen-miller-for-top-policy-position" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stephen Miller</a> would be returning to the White House to be his Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor.
Miller, who was a top policy advisor and speechwriter for Trump during his first term, recently worked as senior advisor to Trump’s campaign and the president of <a href="https://aflegal.org/about/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">America First Legal</a>. Miller is known for his strong advocacy for securing the border and deporting illegal immigrants and helped develop Trump’s immigration policy during his first administration.
America First Legal, which was formed in 2021, has made a name for itself by filing lawsuits challenging the Biden administration and woke corporations. Most recently, it <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-strikes-down-biden-parole-program-for-half-a-million-illegal-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won a lawsuit</a> against an illegal immigrant parole program rolled out by the Department of Homeland Security.
Miller has promised a major crackdown on illegal immigration, and reducing legal migration into the United States as well.
“Any activists who doubt President Trump’s resolve in the slightest are making a drastic error: Trump will unleash the vast arsenal of federal powers to implement the most spectacular migration crackdown,” Miller said last year.

Scavinio will be an assistant to the president and deputy chief of staff for Trump, who referred to him as one of his “longest serving and most trusted aides.” Scavino was another member of Trump’s re-election team.
Blair will be an assistant to the president and the deputy chief of staff for legislative, political, and public affairs. During Trump’s 2024 campaign, Blair worked as the political director for the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee. According to Trump, Blair managed “hundreds of staff” and oversaw “a wide portfolio of political operations and programs” during the campaign.
Budowich will be an assistant to Trump and serve as the deputy chief of staff for communications and personnel. He previously held a senior role in several pro-Trump political action committees.

Other Republicans elected to serve in leadership positions during the 119th Congress included Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), Republican Conference Chair Tom Cotton (R-AR), Republican Policy Committee Chair Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV), Republican Conference Vice Chair James Lankford (R-OK), and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Tim Scott (R-SC).
Barrasso said in an interview over the weekend that the top two issues Republicans were focused on solving starting in January when they take over was the border crisis and high prices.
&#8220;Those are the things we&#8217;re going to start working on immediately,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve been working with the transition team on those things. The cohosts of ABC&#8217;s &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/the-view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The View</a>&#8221; worked themselves into a full-blown panic during Wednesday&#8217;s broadcast over President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s choice for Defense Secretary, decorated Army veteran Pete Hegseth.
Cohost Whoopi Goldberg opened the discussion — which nearly failed to get off the ground when she struggled to even pronounce Hegseth&#8217;s name. Once she had managed that, she mocked Hegseth — an Ivy League educated two-time Bronze Star recipient who earned a Combat Infantryman Badge — because he also happened to be a regular host on &#8220;Fox &amp; Friends: Weekend.&#8221;
&#8220;The cohost of &#8216;Fox &amp; Friends: Weekend&#8217; — not even, like, regular,&#8221; she crowed. Without mentioning Hegseth&#8217;s military career at all, Goldberg just said that the choice had ruffled feathers on both sides of the political aisle.

Goldberg followed that up by claiming that Hegseth — who served tours in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Guantanamo Bay, and achieved the rank of Major — &#8220;clearly does not know anything about the military.&#8221;
Joy Behar joked that by that logic, being a host of &#8220;The View&#8221; qualified her to be the Ambassador to Italy.

An official from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has been arrested and charged for allegedly leaking classified material about Israel&#8217;s attack plans on Iran last month.
The New York Times first <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/13/us/politics/israel-iran-leak.html">reported</a> Wednesday morning that Asif W. Rahman, who works overseas for the CIA, was indicted last week on federal charges and arrested on Tuesday in Cambodia.
He was brought to a federal courthouse in Guam where he was arraigned on two counts of willful retention and transmission of national defense information.
Rahman had a top-secret security clearance and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), the Times reported.
The information that was leaked was compiled by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, which analyzes satellite imagery.

The classified documents that were leaked were intended to only be viewed by members of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, which includes the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Officials were alerted to a leak after a pro-Iran Telegram account published the U.S. intelligence documents last month about Israel’s preparations for their attack against Iran, which had been in planning for weeks.
The report said that the leak could be an attempt to disrupt the forthcoming strike.
The documents showed a summary of what U.S. spy satellites observed the Israeli military doing in preparation for the operation, including moving planes and munitions and conducting “a large exercise”.
Israel&#8217;s strike against Iran came after the Islamic regime fired more than 180 ballistic missiles into Israel at the start of October, which sent nearly the entire country running for bomb shelters.

While a number of conservatives on X have floated CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings as a potential White House Press Secretary for President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s second administration, Jennings also offered a suggestion as to who should replace Marco Rubio (R-FL) in the U.S. Senate: Hulk Hogan.

Senate Republicans on Wednesday elected South Dakota Senator John Thune as the next leader of the conference. 
Thune defeated Texas Senator John Cornyn by a vote of 29 to 24. Florida Senator Rick Scott, an outsider candidate favored by prominent Trump allies including Elon Musk, was eliminated on the first ballot. Thune, 63, is the current Senate Republican Whip. Cornyn, 72, had been the whip in the past.
Thune will be the first new head of the Republican conference in nearly two decades, taking over after Senate Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced earlier this year that he would step down from the post after 18 years. McConnell leaves the role as the longest-serving conference leader in Senate history.
Senate Republican leadership elections are “first past the post,” meaning the eventual leader must receive a majority of the votes. Scott received the least amount of votes on the first ballot and dropped from the race. Thune received a majority on the second ballot. 

The new GOP leadership team will enter the Senate alongside Republican President Donald Trump in the White House and a Republican majority in the House. The Senate team will be primarily responsible for working with the White House to staff the incoming Trump administration and enact Republicans’ legislative priorities.

Despite the anticipation and public pressure, few senators revealed how they planned to vote in the secret ballot ahead of time.
Trump, who did not publicly weigh into the race, said on Sunday that he expected whoever won the leadership race to support recess appointments for his administration, which could allow the president to fill top roles in the government for two years without a vote in the Senate.
“Any Republican Senator seeking the coveted LEADERSHIP position in the United States Senate must agree to Recess Appointments (in the Senate!), without which we will not be able to get people confirmed in a timely manner,” Trump wrote in a post on X. “Sometimes the votes can take two years, or more. McConnell <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/28/us/politics/mitch-mcconnell-senate.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> in February that he would finish his current term as leader before stepping aside for someone else to lead the conference. McConnell’s decision came amid concerns about his health. The senator appeared to freeze multiple times in front of reporters, appearing confused and unable to function.
