As Americans greeted their New Year’s Day hangovers with pledges to lay off the sauce, the Biden administration took a major step towards making every month Dry January.
Last week, Biden&#8217;s Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issued an <a href="https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2025/01/03/us-surgeon-general-issues-new-advisory-link-alcohol-cancer-risk.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">advisory</a> “outlining the direct link between alcohol consumption and increased cancer risk.” Murthy wants health warnings on all alcohol products that mention cancer risk, as well as “a reassessment of the guideline limits for alcohol consumption to account for cancer risk.”
It may sound like benign bureaucratic jargon. But it’s far worse than that.
As The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/no-donald-trump-isnt-coming-for-your-tequila-but-kamala-might-be" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> in October, a secret committee working deep behind the scenes of the Biden administration is working to revise federal dietary guidelines regarding alcohol. The Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking (ICCPUD) is a six-person panel working within the Department of Health and Human Services. But instead of just trying to keep kids from drinking, this panel <a href="https://tomwark.substack.com/p/no-amount-alcohol-healthy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> wants the United States to adopt the World Health Organization’s <a href="https://www.who.int/europe/news/item/04-01-2023-no-level-of-alcohol-consumption-is-safe-for-our-health" target="_blank" rel="noopener">position</a> that “no level of alcohol consumption is safe for our health.”
Now, I love an “I told you so” moment as much as the next keyboard warrior. But this is no reason to gloat. The bureaucracy’s push to stop Americans from drinking is a dangerous development, and not just because it’s profoundly lame. It’s the latest sign of how leftists want to use the government to meddle in Americans’ daily lives. And it’s not even based on real science.
Murthy notes that “alcohol is a well-established, preventable cause of cancer responsible for about 100,000 cases of cancer and 20,000 cancer deaths annually in the United States.” He further notes that “for breast cancer specifically, 16.4% of total breast cancer cases are attributable to alcohol consumption.”
Much like Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/im-not-a-biologist-supreme-court-nominee-says-she-cant-define-the-word-woman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">I’m not a biologist.</a> So I have no reason to doubt these statistics. But whenever a government official starts calling for a total ban on anything for my own good, I get suspicious. Banning things that can be unhealthy when consumed in excess is the first step towards nanny statism and universal health care. It’s downright European.
Or, in this case, Canadian. As we previously reported, three of the ICCPUD’s six members are Canadians who helped slash the number of recommended drinks in their frozen homeland back in 2013. That recommendation didn’t even play well in Canada, a country that has basically thrown its hands up and accepted euthanasia and leaders like Justin Trudeau as inevitabilities.
The mere presence of Canadian health bureaucrats should be enough to disqualify whatever the ICCPUD recommends. But there’s also a <a href="https://www.nationalacademies.org/news/2024/12/new-report-reviews-evidence-on-moderate-alcohol-consumption-and-health-impacts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new study</a> from the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Math, which found that “compared with never consuming alcohol, moderate alcohol consumption is associated with lower all-cause mortality.”
That study is hardly biased towards alcohol. In fact, it includes the same cancer statistics that Murthy cites in his advisory. But it also looks at other areas, and finds that moderate alcohol consumption is associated with a lower risk of both heart attack and stroke, compared to never drinking at all.

There’s also a recent <a href="https://harvardpublichealth.org/policy-practice/is-alcohol-bad-for-you-or-is-alcohol-good-for-you-yes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvard study</a> that found moderate drinking lowered blood sugar and was associated with lower rates of diabetes as well as lower rates of “thyroid cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and renal cell carcinoma.” Looking at the whole board, the authors conclude that “the data do not justify sweeping statements about the [negative] effects of moderate alcohol consumption on human health.”
Murthy probably won’t get his warning labels. Such a change would require congressional approval, and if the <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/01/03/surgeon-general-alcohol-cancer-congress-00196399" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bipartisan opposition</a> to the new drinking guidelines is any indication, it seems unlikely that Congress would vote to slap cancer warnings on liquor bottles.
But Murthy’s advisory is telling nonetheless. Biden is packing up the Oval Office, and his Surgeon General is trying to bring back Prohibition. That would be shocking, if his boss wasn’t spending this time trying to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sell off pieces</a> of the border wall, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disgraceful-decision-trump-press-secretary-blasts-bidens-move-to-block-more-offshore-drilling?topStoryPosition=2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stop offshore drilling</a>, and smuggle in all sorts of policies that would hamstring the incoming Trump administration.
It’s a troubling reminder of how Democrats act when they have power, and of what their priorities will be the next time they take the White House. Fortunately, we won’t have to deal with that for at least the next four years.

It’s January 6, and a storm is brewing in Washington, D.C.
By the end of the day, the nation’s capital could have more than 10 inches of snow, enough precipitation to bring this spiritually-southern city to its knees. Schools are already closed, there are at least two snowball fights planned for the National Mall, and bureaucrats are anxiously refreshing the government snow day page, hoping to work remotely.
But there’s at least one group of people settling in for a full work day. At 1:00 p.m., Vice President Kamala Harris will gavel in a special joint session of Congress. In her capacity as President of the Senate, she’ll oversee a vote to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election.
In an <a href="https://x.com/Bobby_LaVallley?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1875925375605436555%7Ctwgr%5E291dc49cd44d7b0bcf985f566e62c9ffffdd42a0%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2Fwith-snow-blast-imminent-speaker-johnson-says-we-cannot-delay-certification-of-trumps-victory">appearance</a> on Fox News yesterday, House Speaker Mike Johnson, fresh off his re-election, said he does not expect the blizzard to interfere with the vote.
“Well, I hope we have full attendance,” Johnson told Maria Bartiromo. “We’ve got a big snow storm coming to D.C. and we encourage all of our colleagues, ‘Do not leave town. Stay here.’ Because, as you know, the Electoral Count Act requires this on January 6 at 1 p.m. So, whether we’re in a blizzard or not we’re going to be in that chamber making sure this is done.”
Winter weather aside, this is all pretty standard stuff — and a far cry from the last vote to certify, the day that Americans will always remember when they think “January 6.”
A lot has happened since then. Trump, of course, handed power over to Joe Biden, whose disastrous presidency eventually gave way to Harris’s disastrous, insurgent presidential campaign. And after a landslide victory in November, Trump is now set to return to the White House in just two weeks.
He might kick off his term by pardoning the January 6 defendants.
Trump has said <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-attorney-behind-january-6-prosecutions-stepping-down-before-trumps-inauguration">repeatedly</a> that he is open to pardoning many of the 1,600 people charged for their involvement in the Capitol Riot, hundreds of whom have been jailed. And Trump has frequently spoken out against what he says is very unfair treatment of mostly peaceful protestors.
“These people have suffered,” Trump said in a December appearance on “Meet The Press.” “Their lives have been destroyed.”
The president-elect has indicated that he would not consider a blanket pardon, and that he would make “some exceptions” for those found to have done something really criminal. But it seems very likely that Trump will kick off his second term by pardoning many of the January 6 defendants.

This was by no means a foregone conclusion. After January 6, many people predicted that Trump’s political career was over. Many wanted him to go to jail for his role in the protests. And Democrats and the legacy media called the protesters domestic terrorists engaged in a coup, an effort to upend American democracy.
But Trump came back. The election interference case against him <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fani-willis-disqualified-from-trump-election-case-what-does-that-mean-for-trump">failed</a>. In October, the New York Times <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fewer-americans-believe-trump-threatened-democracy-after-2020-election-poll">found</a> that fewer and fewer people thought January 6 was a threat to democracy, while a growing number of people thought Trump was well within his rights to contest the 2020 election results.
In December, an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ig-says-fbi-had-dozens-of-informants-in-d-c-on-jan-6-including-in-capitol">inspector general report</a> determined the FBI had 26 undercover informants on the ground on January 6, many of whom stormed the Capitol without authorization, but were not charged. A few weeks after the report was released, Matthew Graves, the DC attorney general who prosecuted the January 6 defendants, announced that he’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-attorney-behind-january-6-prosecutions-stepping-down-before-trumps-inauguration">stepping down</a> before Trump returns to the White House.
All of this — combined with Biden’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-announces-mass-commutations-after-criticism-over-hunter-pardon">unpopular</a> decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, and commute the death sentences of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-commutes-sentences-of-dozens-of-murderers-two-days-before-christmas">brutal murderers</a> — has really softened the ground for whatever January 6 pardons Trump may consider.
A lot can happen in four years.

After 70 years, it’s time to start taking “White Christmas” seriously.
Few will deny that the 1954 musical is a classic Christmas movie, but no one would call it a “classic” in the same vein as “It’s A Wonderful Life.” Frank Capra’s meditations on morality lend themselves to serious thoughts; Bing Crosby crooning his way through Irving Berlin ballads and Danny Kaye pratfalling all over the Technicolor sets, not so much.
But beneath all the schmaltz and snowfall, &#8220;White Christmas&#8221; is a realistic depiction of a country and people struggling to return to normalcy after years of war and conflict. Its willingness to confront that transition — as well as the social and commercial adjustments it requires — make it not only a true classic, but the perfect Christmas movie for the present.
&#8220;White Christmas&#8221; is the story of Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, World War II veterans turned successful entertainers who find themselves spending Christmas at a struggling Vermont inn owned by their former commanding officer, General Tom Waverly. With ample song and dance, Wallace and Davis manage to save the inn, romance a pair of singing sisters, and put on a spectacular Christmas show that ends with the titular song, just as the first snow of the season begins to fall.

Yes, it’s fluffy. But beneath that fluff is a story of transitions. Career soldier Waverly can’t make peace with peacetime, and tries to trade his pipe and slippers for a new commission. Wallace has done a better job adjusting to postwar life, but only because he’s thrown himself into work, much to the chagrin of Davis, who urges his partner to settle down and start a family.
This is really what “White Christmas” is all about. Think of it this way: the film only has one song about Christmas, but two songs about how hard it is for soldiers to adjust to civilian life.
That fact alone is enough to make us consider that “White Christmas” is about more than seasonal merriment — especially considering the film’s director.
Michael Curtiz is best known for “Casablanca,” an epic tale of love and loyalty at the height of World War II. While the two films don’t seem to have a lot in common, “White Christmas” actually serves as a quasi-sequel to “Casablanca.” So, in order to understand what’s really going on with Wallace and Davis, we have to look back to Rick and Ilsa.

Like “White Christmas,” “Casablanca” is set in the same year it was released. So, contemporary audiences would have seen each film as a commentary on their lives.
With “Casablanca,” that commentary was a call to arms. The film is famously stirring, so much so that the U.S. Office of War Information <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Round-Up-Usual-Suspects-Casablanca/dp/1562827618" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prevented</a> troops stationed in North Africa from seeing it out of fear it would incite violence against Vichy supporters in the area. And the Bureau of Motion Pictures <a href="https://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/active_learning/explorations/casablanca/bmp_report_casablanca.cfm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">determined</a> that “Casablanca” would help the Allies win the war by effectively showing “that personal desire must be subordinated to the task of defeating fascism.”
“Casablanca” isn’t just another war movie. It’s the ultimate war move, in that it drummed up support for the same war it depicted. Similarly, “White Christmas” is more than just a “feel-good” movie. It’s a peacetime movie, one that eased its audience back into normalcy by offering them a step-by-step guide to that end, and showing how happy their cinematic contemporaries were made by following that guide.
Early on in the film, Wallace begrudgingly admits his debt to Davis for convincing him to get into show business after leaving the army, snapping, “We did great, and I’m grateful!” Later on, the film reaches its emotional climax with Bing Crosby’s famous rendition of “Count Your Blessings (Instead Of Sheep).”
You’d be hard pressed to find a better metaphor for prosperity than an abundance of blessings so large, you can toss them off as you’re nodding off. But nowhere is this point better made than at the end of the film, when Wallace and Davis have reunited the members of the 151st Division to surprise General Waverly on Christmas.
Everyone’s happy. Most brought their families. Those whose careers we hear about are wildly successful. And at least one soldier has gotten so pleasantly plump that he can’t fit into his uniform, which gives the whole squad a good chuckle.

This is the point of “White Christmas.” That it’s okay be okay, to be successful and happy, even — especially! — shortly after a period of national tumult. Captain Wallace’s patriotism is not minimized by the fact that he became a successful entertainer, nor is his professional success minimized by his ultimate decision to settle down. He earned both turns, as did everyone else we meet in the film.

Once we understand the central message of “White Christmas” — that you can and should embrace the comfort and normalcy that follows strife — we can appreciate what a serious film it is. First and foremost, it’s Curtiz’s answer to “Casablanca,” a balm for the people whose wartime passions he had only recently inflamed.
It’s also an ideal Christmas movie in the truest sense. Though it’s surprisingly light on the holiday’s commercial trappings, “White Christmas” is about the promise of a new start for humanity. The soldiers become singers, the singers become fathers. The wolf shall live with the lamb, and all that.
This was an essential message for postwar America. But it’s equally important today. Now as then, our country stands on a precipice. We’ve been fighting for years — about politics, culture, education, and more. For a time it seemed like we would never again return to normal.
But now, the opportunity to get back to normal is here. Yes, our country may be divided, and there are certainly many important fights worth having. But with a monumental election behind us, we now have an opportunity to turn away from the fray and focus on the things that matter.
“White Christmas” reminds us what those things are, and urges us to pursue and celebrate them.
The summer brought two presidential assassination attempts and as many Democratic presidential candidates. Let’s let the winter bring comfort and joy, promise and rebirth, and so many blessings you just can’t help but sing about them.

The Biden administration staffer behind the pro-Kamala Harris propaganda account &#8220;Kamala&#8217;s Wins&#8221; likely violated federal law, according to an ethics complaint filed by a watchdog group that centers around an October Daily Wire investigation. 
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) on Wednesday filed a <a href="https://65db7681-e755-4cff-abe7-1d9e373df4db.usrfiles.com/ugd/65db76_9e7ea79e729a40b1ab4bc87b0618a9b5.pdf">complaint</a> against Ethan Wolf, a “communications specialist” in the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. FACT alleges that Wolf “violated the Hatch Act by running the political X account ‘Kamala’s Wins’ while on duty as a federal government employee.”
The Hatch Act <a href="https://osc.gov/Services/Pages/HatchAct-Federal.aspx">bars</a> federal employees from engaging in political activity while on duty or in a federal building. 
The complaint, which cites The Daily Wire’s October <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kamalas-wins-viral-source-of-pro-kamala-misinformation-was-launched-by-biden-admin-employee">exposé</a> of Wolf and “Kamala’s Wins,” calls on “the Office of Special Counsel to act immediately” and look into Wolf’s apparent violations.

“This is a straightforward case,” FACT Executive Director Kendra Arnold wrote in the complaint, adding that “given the prominence of Wolf’s political account, his political activity could easily be seen as coercive and hostile to other employees.”
Wolf first launched his viral account as “Biden’s Wins” in January 2022. At the time, Wolf — a recent college graduate — was working as deputy political director for Illinois Democrat Brad Schneider’s reelection campaign. 
“Biden’s Wins” quickly became “a favorite of White House staffers” such as Ron Klain, POLITICO <a href="https://www.politico.com/newsletters/west-wing-playbook/2022/07/18/always-tweet-00046393">reported</a> in July 2022.
In September 2022, Wolf was <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ethan.wolf.167/posts/pfbid02kKvrEF2uQYdp2fnVCLqPBuraESLJ8SNLWHmk6ACdKBwHvoPTQa4dUrBGzuJKSFo2l">invited</a> to the White House “for a private briefing” with Biden, Harris, and Klain. A month later, he returned to the <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-6989521571837083649-xL7I/">White House</a> for another meeting, where he posed for photos with top White House officials and <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-6989521571837083649-xL7I/">Doug Emhoff</a>.
Around a year after launching “Biden’s Wins,” Wolf landed his  <a href="https://s.bookplum.org/live/hb2T9anuppRlDZ/1QDPUTHbp5uf4t/Ethan-Wolf-oge-278e.pdf">$94,000 a year</a> job in the Commerce Department. In July 2024, after Biden withdrew from the presidential ticket, the account was rebranded as “Kamala’s Wins.”
The account, which has since been <a href="https://x.com/DemocraticWins">rebranded again</a> as “Democratic Wins Media,” has nearly 738,000 followers as of this writing. The account has been a frequent source of misinformation, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/30/politics/fact-check-nfl-quarterbacks-kamala-harris-fundraising-call/index.html">falsely claiming </a>that a number of NFL quarterbacks were part of a “White Dudes for Harris” fundraising call. It has also parroted false claims about former President Donald Trump’s involvement with Project 2025 and his <a href="https://x.com/harris_wins/status/1834652339472417177">2017 remarks</a> in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The account also misconstrued facts about Biden and Harris’s record, claiming their administration’s policies caused inflation and grocery prices to <a href="https://x.com/harris_wins/status/1833523201923813719">plummet</a>, and led to a reduction in <a href="https://x.com/harris_wins/status/1840936148270563413">violent crime.</a>
Wolf also <a href="https://x.com/ethanmwolf/status/1829551588782096473">repeatedly</a> <a href="https://x.com/ethanmwolf/status/1833961958451937759">shared</a> political content from his personal X account during work hours, The Daily Wire reported. Wolf <a href="https://x.com/ethanmwolf/status/1755760573625581946">insisted</a> in February 2024 that Biden was mentally competent, just five months before a series of embarrassing mental gaffes forced Biden to suspend his presidential campaign.

Donald Trump could reshuffle the White House briefing room to give podcasters like Joe Rogan more prominence than legacy media outlets, his son told Daily Wire host Michael Knowles on Monday.
Knowles floated the idea during an appearance on Trump&#8217;s Rumble show, <a href="https://rumble.com/v5t090w-regime-media-imploding-whats-next-for-msnbc-plus-michael-knowles-and-alex-m.html?e9s=src_v1_ucp">&#8220;Triggered,&#8221;</a> noting that mainstream media bias had reached new heights.

President-elect Donald Trump met with President Joe Biden at the White House Wednesday, a strikingly cordial reunion between the longtime political rivals. 
“Well, Mr. President-elect, and former President, Donald, congratulations,” Biden said in the Oval Office, noting that he was “looking forward to … a smooth transition.”

Trump was similarly cordial in his response.

After Trump finished speaking, members of the media — who were only allowed in the Oval Office for these brief opening moments — began shouting questions at the two presidents, who shared a knowing smirk amid the cacophony.
Trump arrived at the White House after a triumphant meeting with House Republicans, where he touted Republicans’ electoral victories and threw his support behind House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).
Wednesday’s meeting comes at the end of an often-fiery relationship between the two presidents. Biden successfully campaigned against Trump in 2020 by repeatedly calling him a threat to democracy. Biden’s successor, Vice President Kamala Harris, picked up and intensified in the final days of her presidential campaign, calling Trump and his supporters “fascists.”
Biden, who repeatedly claimed that he was the only candidate capable of defeating Trump, withdrew from the presidential race over the summer after a disastrous debate performance against Trump highlighted the president’s age and faltering mental state.
Trump handily defeated Harris at the ballot box, sweeping all seven swing states and 312 electoral votes.
Though it is tradition for outgoing presidents to meet with their successors in the White House, today’s meeting was unique. Not since Grover Cleveland’s 1892 defeat of Benjamin Harrison has an outgoing president handed power over to a former president.
While Trump and Biden kept with tradition, their First Ladies did not. ‘Welcome Back’: Trump And Biden Promise Smooth Transition In Cordial White House Meeting

President-elect Donald Trump met with House Republicans Wednesday morning, the first stop on his post-election tour of Washington, D.C.
Trump struck a triumphant tone from the outset, touting his and Republicans’ recent electoral victories.
“It’s always nice to win,” Trump began, before celebrating the “historic kind of numbers” he and House Republicans put up on Election Day.
“The House did very well,” Trump said. “We could have lost by quite a bit,” <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4987984-house-senate-republicans-leadership-election/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trump said</a>, before noting that Republicans wound up gaining four or five seats in the House. The president-elect noted that this was a small margin, but that, “when you get used to” controlling the chamber by a single vote, “you can get used to anything.”
Trump also commented on his recent slew of Cabinet appointments, joking about the fact that he has so far tapped two House Republicans — Reps. Elise Stefanik (NY) and Michael Waltz (FL) as United Nations Ambassador and national security adviser, respectively.
Addressing concerns that he is chipping away at an already-slim majority, Trump joked that he wanted at least 15 House Republicans in his administration, and that he might come back for more later, The Hill reported.

Trump also threw his support behind House Speaker Mike Johnson, <a href="https://x.com/juliegraceb/status/1856718932465328518" target="_blank" rel="noopener">calling</a> him a “tremendous guy” and saying that he was with him “all the way.” Johnson introduced Trump to the conference, calling him a “singular figure in American history” and the “comeback king.”

Peanut the Squirrel was more than just a social media sensation. He was also the namesake of an animal rescue run by the New York couple that adopted him.
Last year, Mark and Daniele Longo <a href="https://www.pnutsfreedomfarm.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opened</a> P’Nuts Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary, “a haven where neglected and homeless animals receive a second chance at life” named after their pet squirrel, who they rescued seven years ago. The sanctuary, which they say has helped 350 animals, was made possible in a large part by donations gathered through Peanut’s viral social media accounts.
Now that Peanut has been euthanized by New York State, Mark Longo worries the sanctuary may be in trouble.
“We’ve relied heavily on PNUT and his internet family to gather donations to help more animals,” Longo <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DBwhVpdymnG/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=2d974739-6fb5-45c5-b805-ffd3a6adc4ce" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote on Instagram</a>. “I don’t even know how [we] will continue to fundraise for this nonprofit.”
Longo says he is uncertain why the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) chose to seize and euthanize Peanut after seven years, during which time there had been no complaints about Peanut. But according to Center For Consumer Freedom Managing Director Will Coggin, the DEC’s actions are inline with the misguided approach of the animal welfare movement.
“The death of Peanut appears to track with a broader trend in the animal rights movement of killing animals,” Coggin told The Daily Wire. “Sadly, many of these people have a ‘better dead than fed’ mentality.”
Coggin pointed to one “shocking” case of Maya the Chihuahua, who PETA employees allegedly took from a Virginia family’s front porch and euthanized.
Maya’s owner, Wilbur Cerate, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20141116095105/http://wavy.com/2014/11/12/man-claims-peta-stole-killed-family-pet/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told WAVY</a> at the time that security footage from his home shows two women exiting a PETA van that pulls up to his property, putting Maya in the van, and driving away. Cerate told WAVY that the women returned three days later with “a fruit basket and terrible news — Maya had been euthanized.”

Accomack County Sheriff Todd Godwin charged the workers with larceny, but the local commonwealth’s attorney dropped the charge.
According to Coggin, Peanut and Maya are just two of many animals who have suffered such fates.
“PETA euthanized 79% of the dogs and cats it took in last year at its ‘shelter,’ which state inspectors likened to a ‘euthanasia clinic,’” Coggin said.
Though PETA has national recognition, Center For Consumer Freedom data suggests that it’s smaller animal rescues like P’Nuts Freedom Farm that do the majority of actual rescuing.
The group <a href="https://consumerfreedom.com/2023/04/petas-25-year-anniversary-of-killing-pets/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> that PETA only adopted 58 animals in 2022, a 2.1% adoption rate. The nearby Norfolk Animal Care &amp; Adoption Center, it said, took in 4,337 animals that year, and had a euthanasia rate of just 10%.

Peanut, an orphaned squirrel who became a social media sensation after being rescued by a New York couple, was euthanized by the State of New York this week.
His crime? Being a squirrel.
“Peanut was an indoor squirrel, not harming anybody,” Mark Longo, one of Peanut’s owners, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/internet-sensation-peanut-the-squirrel-euthanized-by-new-york-state-government" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told TMZ</a> on Friday. “He’s been with us for seven years. Not a single complaint was ever filed,” he added.
You can’t say the same about President Joe Biden’s German Shepherds, Major and Commander, whose history of attacking innocent bystanders has long cast a pall over the White House.
Major, the older of the dogs, “attacked” a Secret Service agent “unprovoked” in 2021, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/21/politics/commander-biden-secret-service-bites-white-house/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. That incident “caused a breach of trust” between the Bidens and the Secret Service, according to the CNN report. Major was <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/08/politics/president-joe-biden-white-house-dogs/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sent permanently</a> back to Delaware in May 2021, shortly after the incident.
But that was only the beginning. In December 2021, the Bidens <a href="https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/national-international/welcome-to-the-white-house-bidens-adopt-new-puppy/2915411/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">welcomed</a> Commander to the White House.
That’s when the trouble began.
As of February 2024, Commander had bitten Secret Service personnel in at least 24 separate incidents, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/21/politics/commander-biden-secret-service-bites-white-house/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Commander reportedly bit <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bad-dog-or-bad-owner-bidens-dog-cant-stop-biting-people-records-show" target="_blank" rel="noopener">seven people</a> in a four-month stretch of 2023 alone. Biden reportedly witnessed several of Commander’s attacks himself, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-witnessed-his-dog-attack-multiple-secret-service-members-document" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to documents obtained by Judicial Watch through a Freedom of Information Act request.
The document also revealed that Secret Service agents would wish each other a “safe shift” before heading to work with Biden and the dog. Commander <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bad-dog-or-bad-owner-bidens-dog-cant-stop-biting-people-records-show" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> bit one agent so hard, he had to go to the hospital.
“The View” host Whoopi Goldberg attempted to laugh off Commander’s attacks in February, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-view-host-laughs-off-bidens-bite-happy-dog-what-did-he-see-that-nobody-else-saw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Goldberg joked that perhaps Commander was able to “see” something “that nobody else saw.”
But Commander is so violent, even liberal media outlets have begun to draw attention to the problem. Days after Goldberg’s comments, Slate <a href="https://slate.com/human-interest/2024/02/joe-biden-dog-commander-white-house-secret-service.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published</a> an article headlined “How Is Joe Biden’s Dog Not Dead Yet?”
“Aggressive dogs have been put down for far, far less,” the piece notes.
Aggressive dogs, yes. But also, as we now know, peaceful squirrels.

Democrat-led New York State came under fire Saturday following the state killing of beloved social media sensation Peanut the Squirrel, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/internet-sensation-peanut-the-squirrel-euthanized-by-new-york-state-government?topStoryPosition=2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire reported</a>. And while Peanut’s death may be shocking, it shouldn’t be surprising — Democrats have a history of animal cruelty.
In 2022, Capitol Police euthanized a wild fox affectionately — though unoriginally — nicknamed “Capitol Fox.” The Capitol Fox quickly became a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/05/us/politics/fox-capitol-hill.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">viral sensation</a>, with reporters jostling for a sight of the vixen, and even asking Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) if he had seen the creature.
But after the Capitol Fox allegedly attacked Democrat Rep. Ami Bera (CA) and POLITICO reporter Ximena Bustillo, Capitol Police <a href="https://freebeacon.com/latest-news/health-officials-murder-fox-who-allegedly-bit-democrat-journalist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">killed</a> the fox along with her three children. After the alleged “incident,” Bera <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/06/us/politics/capitol-hill-fox.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shared a photo</a> of himself smiling and holding up a picture of the fox, and expressed his wishes that the fox “and its family are safely relocated and wishing it a happy and prosperous future.”

As of this writing, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) has not commented on Peanut’s untimely demise. But she is not the first New York Democrat on whose watch harm has befallen famous creatures.
In 2014, then-New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio infamously <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/15/bill-de-blasio-regrets-groundhog-death" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dropped</a> Charlotte the Groundhog at a Groundhog Day ceremony in the city. Asked by The Guardian about the incident years later, de Blasio <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/15/bill-de-blasio-regrets-groundhog-death" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attempted</a> to pass the buck.

Daily Wire editor emeritus Ben Shapiro joined former President Donald Trump in New York Monday to mark the first anniversary of Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel with a trip to the tomb of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of Chabad.
Trump and Shapiro visited the Ohel Chabad-Lubavitch in Queens, the final resting place of one of the most influential Jews of the 20th century. Schneerson, affectionately known as the “Rebbe,” led the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, which tries to promote religious observance to Jews worldwide.
“October 7 was the greatest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust,” Shapiro said. “It was an honor to join President Trump in NY today to pay our respects and remember the lives lost in the horrific terrorist attack one year ago today.”
